“I am Joe’s Brain”
works on paper by Queens artist Paul Lambermont.

Opening Reception with the artist September 12th 6-9pm

The theme of the exhibition comes from a series of articles published in Reader’s Digest during the early 1970’s. In the article, various bodily organs belonging to someone mysteriously identified as Joe and to Joe’s wife, Jane would describe their functions and various physiological and structural aspects with an accent on particularly pathos laden aspects of their story. According to the artist, “The whole premise of talking body parts seemed so absurd and surreal that It occupied my thoughts for years until I was able to investigate it in a thorough fashion and investigate its connotations. . “
The work itself consists of large works on paper constructed of found, repurposed paper that reference, scientific illustration, conventions of still life painting and religious art and kitsch. The content of the work examines the various activities of the brain, ranging between creativity, spirituality , desire and emotion.

*Portraits "an Intimate Connection"*

On view march 6, 7, 8 2009

In conjunction with the Armory Arts Week, Local Project is presenting the exhibition *Portraits "an Intimate Connection"*A selection of portraits by LP artists presenting the dialogue of portraiture as a reflection of identity.

The exhibition also features the artwork of Dick Lubinsky
(1933-2001) an NYC artist whose artwork was uncovered post mortem in piles of trash in the Bronx & Mt Vernon, NY.

Local Project is pleased to announce "White Square", the first solo show in our gallery of Korean artist Seongmin Ahn.
The exhibition opens with a reception on Saturday, February 14 from 6:00- 9:00pm , and will be on display through February 28.

Seongming Ahn's work combines classical geometric forms with her interests on architectural structures.
The use of the walls and the floor simultaneously in these installations transforms regular two-dimensional surfaces
into a "hyper-dimensional" space, while resorting to the idea of emptiness in Asian philosophy.
The installations put forth an interaction with the spectator,
in which changes of perspective and point of view reveal previously inexistent spaces.

According to the artists herself the purpose is "to evoke a new way of looking at the space around us,
by challenging our conventional uses of perspective. Through these works I suggest people to look at our selves and our world from multiple perspectives. Seeing a problem in different ways can simply be a turning point to solve it."

Born in Seoul, Korea Seongmin Ahn moved to New York in 2001 after her graduate school at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Her work is included in public and private collections including Asian American Art Center(NY) and Johns Hopkins Hospital (MD).
Recently Ahn exhibited at Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts (Wilmington, DE). Also she received the Pollock-Krasner Grant in 2003.

Opening Reception February 14, 2009 6:00 - 9:00pm
