Barmaids and Brujeria brings together some recent individual work of two artists who have collaborated for over twenty years.
Works will include paintings from Jasper Latane’s Barmaids series. These large oil and multimedia pieces portray legendary, living, downtown bartenders in their natural surroundings. These visually striking pieces manage not only to impart the vastly different personalities of the women in the paintings, but also the establishments – some you’re sure to recognize – they work in.
Also on view will be Jason Norvein Wachtelhausen’s strangely intriguing multimedia gore-fest Brujas. Somehow Wachtelhausen’s vision transcends the ubiquitous piles of intestines in these unsettling, but ultimately beautiful pieces.
This opening reception on December 20th at Local Project in Long Island City will also be one of the first shows at the new space. For five years LP supported local art (and threw legendary parties) out if its small space in the historic soon-to-be-demolished 5Pointz building. This opening promises to continue this tradition with drinks, DJs, and performers including Erica Mancini of HUFF THIS!.
