Live Streaming Sunset, 2015

December 22nd, 2015 7:30am – 9:00pm

Reception: 6 – 8:30pm

Live Streaming Sunset, an ever-expanding public work, is comprised of a series of projected videos tracking the sunset across the globe in real time via surveillance webcams. The collected videos form an extended moment, a surveilled sublime, the sun in perpetual set. Queens, the most ethnically diverse urban area in the world, is the setting for a multitude of suns setting into each other, one by one, spanning the Middle East to Europe on to North and Central America in this run. Right before the sun disappears from view the video feed switches to the next time zone, pulling the sun back into the sky, collapsing time and distance. The setting sun will stretch across a full day, a long form perpetual set on the solstice, the shortest day of the year.

Magali Duzant is a Queens-based artist working across photography, sculpture and video, exploring the ways in which technology acts as a mediator of our experiences and a 21st century desire to track and record day-to-day perspectives. Live Streaming Sunset has been screened in various forms at the Dumbo Arts Festival, The New School’s Aronson gallery, Fridman Gallery in Soho and at the Parramatta Lanes Festival in Sydney, Australia.
