Materials for the Arts is pleased to present Creative Reuse in New York City, an exhibition of site-specific work by three of its nonprofit member organizations: Flux Factory, Local Project, and Free Style Arts Association, as well as work by Materials for the Arts teaching artists and workshop participants. Making art is a process of reimagining available materials. At Materials for the Arts, this process is called creative reuse: taking objects originally for one purpose and presenting them anew.
Creative Reuse in New York City features five large-scale mixed media installations and six smaller sculptures which explore creative reuse in New York City.
The exhibition is on view at Materials for the Arts, 33-00 Northern Boulevard, Long Island City, NY through February 29, 2012.
Thursday, December 1, from 6-9 pm, Materials for the Arts will host a public reception honoring the featured artists and their host organizations. The reception will include a panel where the artists will discuss their work, the use of found objects in their practice, and the role of their host organizations in the cultural community.
Creative Reuse in New York City was organized by John Kaiser and Nathaniel Shelness of the Education Center at Materials for the Arts.
