The Future of Local Project

Dear Community,

It is with a bittersweet blend of emotions that we announce the closure of Local Project’s physical space this summer after 20 years of championing emerging artists in New York City. We are filled with gratitude for the journey we have shared with you, our community, and sadness as we bid farewell to the space that has been our home for so many years.

As we transition to a new platform to continue our mission of supporting emerging artists, we want to take a moment to reflect on the impact we have made on the local arts scene. Since 2003, Local Project has hosted over 500 events, including art shows and performances, and has influenced the work of around 3,000 artists. We provided a space for artists to develop their ideas, engage in dialogue and create a vibrant and inclusive creative community, particularly for those from underrepresented groups. Local Project has been a bridge between Queens and the rest of the world, and we are proud to have played a role in elevating the voices of emerging artists from our community.

We want to invite everyone to mark their calendars for Local Champion, a 50+ artists show curated by June Kosloff and Carolina Peñafiel. The opening reception will be held on June 2nd at 6 p.m., and the show will run until June 25th, culminating in a block party to celebrate the artists and their contributions to Local Project’s legacy. Don’t miss this opportunity to support emerging artists and say goodbye to our physical space with a bang!

We are deeply grateful for the support that you, our community, have provided us over the years. It has been an honor to serve you, and we look forward to continuing to support emerging artists in innovative ways as we transition to our new platform. See you in June!

With gratitude and love,
The Local Project Team
